Art Hall Concerts: Kalle Vainio – Liquid drones 25.10.2026

Composer and sound artist Kalle Vainio presents the new work Liquid Drones as part of the autumn Soiva Taidehalli programme.

Liquid Drones is an acoustic composition written for a portable harmonium, in which the instrument’s keys are manipulated with metal clamps, creating a continuously breathing sound field. Its sonic character resembles water flowing beneath ice—secretive, delicate, and organic.

Vainio has gained wide recognition for his work with the prepared piano, in which the instrument is physically altered to bring forth new and unpredictable sonorities. Liquid Drones continues this line of thinking: rather than expanding the instrument with electronics, its acoustic structure and operating logic are carefully fine‑tuned.
